C’est combien le kilo? series of aquarells on latex (9 – 12 cm x 15 – 21 cm) and 30′ videoloops, DV /2007-2009

C’est combien le kilo? is a series of small sized drawings, aquarells and animation in which I created fictional but very familiar characters. Throughout the working process I started practicing a new way of perception: When looking at people, instead of perceiving the extraordinary I started to focus on the ordinary.

I took a lot of photos on the streets, I attented places and events where I normally never would choose to go. i.e.:  the National Gallop in Hero’s Square, or (Mineral exhibition), beauty salons. I used these photos to collect the most familiar elements. Inspired by these details I made a lot of palm size aquarelles on latex. Latex’s skin like texture and semi-transparent quality gives the illustion of some depth, a neutral background. Based on these paintings I created a series of non-narrative, conceptual video loops.
